Text Messages: Carole Kunstadt’s ‘Five Books of Moses’
The Museum of Biblical Art in NYC is one of my Top 5 museums. Exceptional exhibitions and catalogues; fun-filled opening receptions; and they are located in one of the very best cultural districts in the world: near Lincoln Center. I understand that they also have an exceptional community education program for teachers and students. While I only get to visit once or twice a year, since it's in NYC and I'm in Indiana, I experience it through their Tweets, Blog, e-mail list, and related membership updates. The newest catalog is from MOBIA's spring 2013 exhibition, "Ashe to Amen: African Americans and Biblical Imagery," and it's now available online. The current exhibition, "As Subject and Object: Contemporary Book Artists Explore Sacred Hebrew Texts" has earned rave reviews in The Jewish Week, The Jewish Daily Forward, and The Jewish Press; and when I read about them I am even prouder that I've maintained my membership. If you are not a member, but you believe in the transformative power of religious art, you should join too. Memberships also make perfect birthday gifts!
