OHIO--The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center will introduce its new president on Tuesday. Clarence G. Newsome, Ph. D., will be welcomed to Cincinnati at a press conference at 10:30 a.m. at the Freedom Center’s grand hall. Museum officials said Newsome serves on the Duke University Board of Trustees and is a past president of Shaw University. He also served as dean of the School of Divinity at Howard University. Among his accolades, officials said Newsome is known for his work in African-American history and culture, as well as overseeing the creation of a museum of religious art at Howard University. During that time, officials said Newsome helped the museum acquire more than $2.7 million in artifacts and icons with support from the Smithsonian Institution.
