BLOUIN/ARTINFO
By Rozalia Jovanovic
MASSACHUSETTS---With the Supreme Court’s decision last week to strike core provisions of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in the headlines, the Worcester Art Museum garnered some attention recently when it announced on Facebook that it would be “proud and happy” to host LGBTQ weddings. Specifically, its post inspired not only 164 “likes,” but also a furious denuncuation by a local Catholic institution. “We’re simply not going to support them institutionally as in the past,” Reverend Stephen Gemme of St. Bernadette’s Parish in nearby Northborough, Massachusetts, told the Telegram & Gazette. The parish, which also operates a Catholic school, is neither a member of the museum, nor is it a donor. Reverend Gemme could not be reached for comment. [link]
