INDIA---Director general, Archaeological Survey of India, Pravin Srivastava inaugurated a new gallery on 'Hinduism' at Sarnath museum site on Sunday. According to deputy superintending archaeologist, Ajay Srivastava, the new gallery is dedicated to Hindu gods and goddesses and images related to Buddhist pantheon. The massive depiction of Shiva, Parvati, Vishnu, Bhairav, Agni, Ganesh, Kamdeva, Rati and nine planets are noteworthy exhibits in the gallery. Images of gods and goddesses are carved with their specific attributes along with their vehicles as per the Hindu mythology. The exhibits in the gallery range from 5th and 6th century to 12th century. According to Srivastava, the exhibits strengthen the fact that in that period Hinduism received the same importance as Buddhism and the art also developed in the same manner. [link]
