GERMANY---Together with numerous artists the artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset developed the series "A Space Called Public | Hoffentlich Öffentlich ", which takes place from January to September in prominent places in Munich. Currently, the sculpture "Made in Dresden" by Han Chong is placed on the eastern side of the Viktualienmarkt. The oversized fallen Buddha figure is the fourth project in the series; the development process is documented on the website www.aspacecalledpublic.de. The phony-looking golden color of the Buddha sculpture and its simple design is reminiscent of typical souvenirs. The title of the work "Made in Dresden" is an indication that in Dresden - most Asiatica are produced for the European market - and not in Asia. [link]
