ALPHA OMEGA ARTS
By TAHLIB
A longtime friend, and head of a major united arts fund counseled that when we take on the challenge of cultural equity to remember, "No good deed goes unpunished." The counsel was not to discourage but to instead to encourage in an amazing way. Similarly, Justin Laing of the Heinz Endowments recently wrote that the traditional way of fighting racism "materially benefits White and ALANA (Afrtican, Latino/a, Asian, and Native American) gatekeepers who are paid because of the need for a societal response to this poverty, but they are not accountable to the financially poor communities who make their wirk possible." In my organization, we are accepting the challenge of fighting racism and anti-religious sentiments, but we will also remember that "no good deed goes unpunished."
